There's no denying that golf is an excellent way of filling your free time – you get to hang out with a few of your golfing buddies, you're spending time outside, and even though it doesn't seem like it, golf is a fantastic exercise.
Carrying your golf clubs, as well as other equipment with you throughout the entire golf course is, however, the not-so-fun side of golf. That's why you should think of your golf bag as your best friend on the course.
That's why you shouldn't take the search for the best golf bags lightly. There's more to it than just buying the first one you lay your eyes on; I'm going to tell you all about it, so keep on reading!
Searching For The Golf Bags: Pay Attention To These Things
Your golf bag will be your central companion through the game, which is why you should pay attention to specific details when you're buying one. I know that the whole process of searching for the golf bags when there's so many options to choose from might be a bit overwhelming.
How can you be sure you made the right choice?
Well, to make things easier, I've come up with a list of features you should pay attention to if you're looking for a new golf bag – a buying guide if you will.
Take a look!
Pick The Right Type Of Bag
As you might have noticed while spending time on the golf course, there are plenty of different types of golf bags out there, each of them addressing different needs of players.
As the name already suggests, these bags are meant to be carried around. They are designed with the casual golfers in mind, and are sometimes referred to as „Sunday bags." If you're the type of golfer that likes to walk around the course and don't usually bring that much stuff with you, these affordable, extremely lightweight models are the best golf bags for you.
What makes these bags unique is the two retractable legs, which allow you to keep it by your side at an upright position. They also come equipped with padded shoulder straps and are usually pretty lightweight, since you'll be carrying them.
If you want the best golf bags that your golf cart can carry around for you, these are the models to keep an eye on today. Of course, they tend to be a bit heavier due to the use of additional structured materials, and rigid inner linings, so don't think you can carry it around yourself.
These are the bags that come to mind when I think about luxury and professional golfers, but I'm yet to see an average golfer willing to carry around a tour bag. They're large, heavy, and even though do have way more storage space than any other type, they're probably too much for a casual golfer.
One thing's for sure, though: they look great!
Weight Can Be An Issue!
If you plan on carrying your bag around the course, the weight of the golf bag should be an essential thing to consider. Nowadays, most manufacturers strive to shed as much weight as possible, without compromising the level of sturdiness. I'm pretty sure you'll be able to find some golf bags out there that weigh as little as three pounds or so.
Pretty impressive, right?
Keep in mind that the lightest of bags don't have lots of additional storage space. Carrying a bunch of unnecessary stuff around kind of beats the purpose of buying a light golf bag, don't you think?
Make Sure It Has A Sufficient Amount Of Dividers
You've probably heard that a golf bag can have as little as one, or as much as fifteen dividers. How on Earth are you supposed to determine which one is the best for you, then?
It's all comes down to the number you feel comfortable with; if you don't mind fishing out the right club every time you reach in the bag, then, by all means, go for a model with a minimal number of dividers. However, keep in mind that a divider system has a purpose of protecting your clubs.
And if you decide to go with a bag that has dividers, remember that full-length ones are always a better choice than top-only systems.
One of the most critical dividers has to be the putter well – a compartment specifically designed to protect both your putter's head from being damaged, as well as the shafts of other clubs in the bag.
Additional Storage Space
Take a moment to think about the stuff you want to bring with you at the golf course. What are some things you definitely can't go without? Don't take the items you need into account, though, like tees, and spare balls – they are a must-have, and even the simplest of bags should provide enough storage space for them.
Once you get a general idea about some items you'll bring with you, it'll be a lot easier to decide which ones are the best bags for your particular needs.
All in all, I recommend you look for a bag that offers some nice touches, for example, an extra pocket for your water bottle, your phone, and wallet, as well as some tiny pieces of equipment, such as markers and scorecards.
Rain Hood In Case Of Bad Weather
No matter how many time you check the forecast before your trip to the golf course, weather can be pretty unpredictable. That's why it's particularly important to get a golf bag with some weather protection. A typical bag will contain not only your golf clubs, but your valuables, and other pieces of equipment, all of which should be kept dry, and protected if it does start raining all of a sudden.
However, if the model you're keen on doesn't come with a rain cover, don't despair – you can just buy the rain hood separately.
Set A Budget
Price shouldn't be the be all, end all factor when searching for the golf bags on the market. However, given the fact that they may cost less than a $100, or as much as several hundreds of dollars, you need to set a price point you're comfortable with, without compromising the overall quality of the bag.
It's always better to save up some money and get a more expensive golf bag, as they do provide a certain level of durability. Also, you never know when you might need all the bells and whistles that these bags usually have – they prove to be extremely beneficial if (or better yet, when) the moment arises.
Getting a cheaper model usually results in having to buy a new bag sooner than you might expect.

#1. Callaway Golf 2017 Chev Stand Bag – Ideal For Those That Like To Walk Around The Course
Let's get the money talk out of the way before we move on to the actual benefits of owning a golf bag such as this one. While it's not exactly affordable, I feel like it's reasonably priced. What I mean by that is you'll get your money's worth.
Now, let's move on to the actual advantages.
First off, I have to congratulate Callaway for managing to make a golf bag as lightweight as this one (it weighs a measly 5.2 pounds), without actually compromising quality. The bag still has everything you'll need at the golf course:
Six pockets for additional equipment, one of them being a large apparel pocket that will allow you to bring a raincoat or a change of clothes in case you need one while you're at the golf course. Besides that, there's also a velour-lined pocket for your valuables, such as your phone, wallet, and keys.
The bag features a seven-way divide system, meaning there are seven separate compartments for your clubs, which gives you plenty of ways to organize them. The best thing is, all the dividers are full-length, which means most of your clubs won't come in contact while inside the bag.
I did notice there was one problem with this bag, though. And a big one, if I might add. The colors shown in the pictures are way off, making the bag pretty much unrecognizable in real life. I thought it might be a mix-up, and I've gotten the wrong bag, but as it turns out, the problem was in the pictures.
- 1The bag has seven dividers, and all of them are full-length.
- 2The bag has six additional pockets, one of them being for valuables.
- 3The large apparel pocket allows you to bring everything you need.
- 4It’s reasonably priced
- 5It’s pretty lightweight (5.2 pounds)
- 6The straps feature additional padding
- 1The pictures (colors shown in them) are way off
#2. Callaway Golf 2017 Fusion Stand Bag – Store All Your Clubs Separately
A bit more expensive model than the previously reviewed Callaway Chev is this Callaway Fusion golf bag. Besides the fact that they have the same manufacturer, another thing they have in common is the fact that they're both stand bags.
Now, why would I recommend this one over the other?
Let's begin with the fact that this bag features a 14-way divider system, which is an excellent choice for those of you that like to keep their clubs well organized. Add the fact that all the dividers are full-length, and you get a perfect combination of convenience and club protection.
The list of advantages doesn't end there, though. Storage-wise, the bag has to offer eight pockets for the rest of your equipment, including a pocket for your valuables, which is water-resistant (a huge plus when it's raining), and velour-lined. On top of that, you'll notice the water bottle sleeve is insulated, so don't worry about accidental spills.
Again, even with all this, Callaway managed to keep things light, which is somewhat surprising, and a considerable advantage if you plan on carrying your bag around the golf course.
Besides being a bit expensive, and not the best option for everyone's budget, another issue I've had with this bag is its liner. The grips of my clubs kept continually getting stuck on it; it's not a huge issue, but I thought it would be wrong of me not to tell you.
- 114-way divider system with full-length dividers
- 2The bag has eight additional pockets
- 3The pocket for your valuables is velour-lined and water-resistant
- 4It features a utility hook with a black satin finish
- 5The water bottle sleeve is insulated
- 6The bag is pretty lightweight and comfortable to carry around
- 1It’s a bit more expensive
- 2The club grips tend to get stuck on the bag’s liner
Living up to its name (Supreme), this TaylorMade bag features an outstanding amount of storage space, a maximum number of dividers, as well as some other features.
Plenty of additional storage space is also an important feature. The main thing to mention here is the pockets, of which there are ten. Two of the pockets are micro-suede pockets dedicated to your valuables (keys, phone, wallet, etc.), while another, insulated one, is meant to be used as a safe storage spot for your water bottle. It comes with draining ports, too!
There's also a rain hood included in the package, meaning there's no need to worry about the rain anymore. Speaking of rain, you'll be glad to learn there's an umbrella slot on there, as well.
Since product descriptions are pretty much your only way of learning about a specific product when you're shopping online, you expect that information is accurate, right?
- 1The bag has a total of 10 pockets
- 2Two dedicated pockets for your valuables
- 3Insulated cooler pocket for your water bottle
- 4It features a 15-way divider system
- 5It has an integrated putter well
- 6Includes a rain hood, and an umbrella slot
- 7It’s reasonably priced
- 1It’s a bit more expensive
- 2The club grips tend to get stuck on the bag’s liner
#4. Sun Mountain Golf- 2017 C130 Cart Bag – The Upgrade Choice For Larger Budgets
I always like to include a model I consider an „upgrade choice" on all my round-ups, including this one, dedicated to finding the good golf bags on the market. My goal is to give you a variety of choices, so there's something for every budget limit or a complete lack thereof. The Sun Mountain's cart bag is precisely that – an option for those willing to spend a bit more.
Let's talk about the dividers. The bag features a 14-way divider system, which should be enough for you to have a separate compartment for every one of your golf clubs. On top of that, every divider has a full-length design, so there's no way your clubs will get in contact (and possibly damage each other) while they're inside the bag.
Also, I believe ten forward-facing pockets will give you all the storage space you need, especially because two of them are full-size apparel ones, three for your valuables, and one cooler pocket for your drink of choice.
And in cases of unpredicted rain, you'll be able to use the matching rain hood that comes with the bag.
The main issue is that it's quite expensive. Of course, if you're able to spend over a $200 on a golf bag, go ahead (I told you how I feel about these types of smart investments). However, there are lots of golfers out there that might not be able to afford it, which is why I count the price in as a disadvantage.
- 1The bag has a 14-way divider system
- 2All the dividers are full-length
- 3Ten forward facing pockets in total, with two full-size apparel pockets
- 4It has three pockets for your valuables and one cooler pocket
- 5The bag comes with a rain hood
- 6The three handles on top make getting your bag on (or off) the cart easy
- 1It costs quite a bit of money
#5. Prosimmon Tour 14 Way Cart Golf Bag – The Budget-Friendly Option
Comming in at less than $100, this is one of the cheapest options on the market that still qualifies as one of the golf bags available.
The bag features a 14-way divider system, but only three dividers are full-length. Keep that in mind if you like to keep all your clubs separated. The external putter well is a nice addition, though, as it not only holds the putter at hand but is an ideal option if your putter of choice has a more massive head, too.
The six pockets – for balls, accessories, and tees, valuables, apparel, as well as water bottles – provide plenty of storage space for pretty much everything you could need while you're playing. Add the utility features into the mix, and you're good to go, no matter the conditions.
Also, I'd like to point out that this golf bag comes with a rain hood included in the package, which is more than some expensive models have to offer.
I don't know what's up with all the „false advertising," but this is another bag that promises full-length dividers, and delivers only partly – as I've mentioned before, only three out of 14 is true to that statement.
Since this is a cart bag, it seems rather strange that the clubs are so difficult to access once the bag is placed on the golf cart. It kind of beats the purpose of buying a cart bag, don't you agree?
- 1The bag has a 14-way divider system
- 2It has an external putter well
- 3That is an incredibly affordable golf bag
- 4Several utility features (glove holder, umbrella strap, towel ring)
- 5It comes with a rain hood
- 6It’s surprisingly lightweight for a cart bag
- 1The dividers are advertised as full-length, but they’re not
- 2The material feels a bit cheap
- 3When it's loaded on a golf cart, some clubs are not readily accessible
Final Thoughts On The Best Golf Bags
Now that I’ve talked you through the entire process of choosing the right golf bag for your particular style and needs, it’s time to announce the winner of the round-up, the number one choice among the golf bags.
I would say that the TaylorMade 2017 Supreme Cart Bag is the best golf bag out of the bunch. The „supreme“ one, if you will. Lots of storage space, excellent club organization, and nice final touches are what tipped the scale in TaylorMade’s favor.
